Join with the Foundation of the Diocese to help parishes in need

The Board of the Foundation of the Diocese of Central New York is looking for volunteers to become part of our team which provides grants and loans to parishes in need. The Foundation is a separate 501(c)3 organization whose board meets four times per year. A subcommittee called Screening and Review also meets four times per year, two weeks ahead of the board meeting, to provide input on grant and loan requests. This committee may make site visits to gather information to help with decision-making on those requests.

Grants and loans can be used for a variety of purposes including building and grounds repairs, expansion or maintenance. The money can also be used for programs.

As a board member, you will assist in setting the loan rates (which are generally two points below prime) and help determine grant amount to be given based upon the information provided in grant applications. Grants of up to $10,000 can be given but is dependent upon how much grant money is available any given year.

We are also looking for someone with a banking/financial background to be the Treasurer (financial secretary) of record for the organization. This volunteer would be responsible for recommending interest rates for loans, negotiating loan terms for loans approved by the board, and reviewing and providing input to the board regarding the financial status of parishes requesting a grant/loan. (That review is based on the information provided by the parish in their application submission). Note that the bookkeeping/check-writing is a separate paid position.

We have one paid position to be filled: Recording Secretary. This person would be responsible for taking minutes at the four Board meetings and four Screening and Review Meetings and distributing those minutes within a week, setting up the meetings via Zoom, sending out meeting agendas, receiving and distributing Grant and Loan Applications along with questions and answers, corresponding with requestors of loans and grants to notify them of application status or updates required to their applications. Pay is $2,500 per year. Experienced parish administrators (active or retired) would have favorable background for this function.
