You are invited to attend a service of celebration and commissioning at Grace Episcopal Church, 6 Elizabeth Street, Utica on April 24th at 7:00 p.m. The Rt. Rev. Dr. DeDe Duncan-Probe, Bishop of Central New York, will commission as catechists (teachers) two leaders of the Karen Episcopal community: the Rev. Deacon Bah Tway and Mr. Edwin Way.
For many years before coming to the US, our Karen brothers and sisters worshiped together in refugee camps in Thailand, having been forced to leave their homes in Burma (now Myanmar). During that time and for the past twelve years in the US, the Rev. Deacon Bah Tway (Syracuse area) and Mr. Edwin Way (Utica area) have served to preserve their long-established faith communities and provide Christian education for young people. The service will incorporate Karen language. The diocesan community recognizes, with grateful hearts, the ministry of these leaders, and we look forward to strengthening our shared ministry.
