October 29, 2020, 4:00 pm7:00 pm

The Episcopal Diocese of Central New York welcomes Christian Peacemaker Teams for an interactive online training on the basics of tactics for social change and de-escalation of violence.

The training workshop takes place on Thursday, October 29th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Clergy, members of our parishes, and community members are all encouraged to attend.

Space is limited, so please REGISTER HERE as soon as possible. In addition to your registration, please consider a donation to the Diocese of $10 or more to help defray the costs of the training.

What to expect:

Rooted in Mennonite and Quaker spirituality, Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) is a broad multi-faith network that supports spiritually-centered peacemaking, creative public witness, nonviolent direct action for social change, and protection of human rights.

In this highly interactive workshop, CPT facilitators will share knowledge, tips, and tactics that you can apply in social change protests and police intervention. Interactive exercises will prepare you for situations you may encounter while faithfully seeking justice in public settings. You’ll learn:

  • De-escalation: Learn to discern when it’s appropriate to intervene and de-escalate situations of conflict, and learn  and practice essential de-escalation skills
  • Participating in a protest: Prepare yourself for various protest scenarios and learn about common protest organizing structures. Learn how to interact with police and military officers, preparing for arrest, and responding to counter-protesters
  • Self-care: How to take care of yourself during and after the hard work of seeking justice publicly
