The only thing constant about our media and entertainment landscape is that it is changing and expanding rapidly. According to MediaLiteracyNow.org, media literacy is the learned ability to:

• “Decode media messages (including the systems in which they exist);
• Assess the influence of those messages on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; and
• Create media thoughtfully and conscientiously.”

With the rise of non-human internet traffic (e.g., bots and AI-generated content), keeping our critical media consumption skills up to date can seem daunting. However, especially in a US election year where misinformation and disinformation are produced and shared at rates that are hard to conceptualize, the importance of sharpening our media literacy skills cannot be overstated.
