Transition Ministry Updates (Spring 2017)

The people of the Diocese of Central New York celebrate the following clergy calls and transitions:

Clergy New to the Diocese

The Rev. Gary Cyr has been called to serve as the Rector of St. James’ Church in Clinton beginning April 1st.  He will be moving to Central New York from Tucson, Arizona, and previously served as Assistant Priest at Christ Church in Alberta in the Diocese of Calgary. Ordained ministry is a second career for the Rev. Cyr, who previously owned and operated a hair salon. He is a native of Northern Maine.

 

The Rev. Jon White has been called to serve as the Rector of St. Luke’s Church in Camillus beginning May 1st. He will be moving to Central New York from the Diocese of West Virginia where he served as the Rector of St. Stephen’s Church in Beckley and St. Andrew’s Church in Mullens. Jon is also the editor of the Episcopal Cafe, an online church news blog.

Calls Within the Diocese

St. David’s Church in DeWitt has extended their agreement with the Rev. Naomi Sorrwar-Randall to serve as Parish Clergy until June 30th.

St. John’s Church in Cape Vincent and Christ Church in Clayton have called the Rev. Jennifer Kenna to serve as Long-Term Supply Priest as of February 1st through August 31st. The Rev. Kenna had served as Assistant Priest at Trinity Church in Watertown until January 1, 2017.

St. Matthew’s Church in Liverpool has called the Rev. Jacqueline Schmitt to serve as Priest-in-Charge beginning March 1st.

Trinity Memorial Church in Binghamton has called the Rev. Glenn Mahaffey to serve as Priest-in-Charge through December 31st.

Trinity Church in Elmira has called the Rev. Wanda Copeland to serve as Rector as of July 1, 2016. The Rev. Copeland also serves as Rector of St. Matthew’s Church in Horseheads.

Trinity Church in Seneca Falls has called the Rev. Nelson Gaetz to serve as Parish Priest through November 12th.

Retirements

The Rev. Don Matthews retired from the position of Rector at Grace Church in Elmira on March 1st.

The Rev. Beverly Messenger-Harris retired from the position of Rector at Gethsemane Church in Sherrill on December 31, 2016. The Rev. Messenger-Harris will continue to serve as Parish Priest at Gethsemane Church.

Licensed to Officiate in the Diocese

The Rev. Richard Sauerzopf (Episcopal, Diocese of Michigan) has been Licensed to Officiate in the Diocese of Central New York and is now on the Supply Priest & Lay Preacher Roster .
