The Diocesan Board has awarded eighteen Ministry Grants to parishes and organizations of the Diocese in the Spring 2021 grant cycle. Ministry Grants fund projects that reflect diocesan ministry priorities including leadership development, technical assistance, and strengthening neighborhood connections. A second 2021 Ministry Grant cycle is planned for Fall 2021.
All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Johnson City: $2,000 for Soup & Sandwich Saturday
This fourteen-year old outreach ministry serves up homemade soup and sandwiches weekly. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, attendance has increased from about 60 people to 100 each week.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Syracuse: $1,500 for the Open Pantry
Located in an area with high foot and public transit traffic, this “help yourself” mini-pantry is a user-friendly way to address food insecurity. St. Paul’s launched this ministry last summer and intends to keep it going as a permanent mission of the church.
The Episcopal Diocese of Central New York: $1,500 for “Practicing the Art of Jesus”
This online Holy Week art experience is open to everyone in the Diocese, offering an opportunity to dig deep into Scripture, the stories of Holy Week, and our diocesan Rule of Life. Learn more>
St. Margaret’s House, New Hartford: $4,500 for Clergy Respite
St. Margaret’s Ecumenical and Retreat Center will offer thirty free two-night stays for clergy leaders of the Diocese. Clergy will have time for individual reflection, enjoy homemade meals and time on the grounds, and fill themselves up so they can continue to serve their parishes.
Grace Episcopal Church, Elmira: $2,000 for Scholarships to the College for Congregational Development
Covers a portion of the cost for three church leaders to participate in the College for Congregational Development in 2021.
Live-Streaming Equipment & Other Technical Assistance
The Diocesan Board was able to provide Ministry Grants to a number of parishes to support installation or upgrades of live-streaming equipment. This allows online worship to continue, often in a “hybrid” format that brings together in-person and online participants as a single congregation.
